Biography
Camillo Jean Nicolas Felgen (1920 – 2005) was a Luxembourgish singer, songwriter and television presenter who represented Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960 and 1962.
He was born on November 17, 1920 in the city of Tétange in Luxembourg and after his studies he started working as a teacher.
During World War II he worked as a translator for the German occupiers and then as a reporter for a French-language newspaper. He studied theater and opera in Brussels and Liège and in 1946, he joined Radio Luxembourg as a choir singer and French-speaking reporter. In 1949 he completed his studies in theater and opera. In 1951, he had his first international hit, "Bonjour les amies" ("Hello Friends"). The song became the theme song for the national radio station. In 1953 he recorded his first German-language album, in Berlin. He represented his country in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960 (last place) and 1962 (third place).
Camillo Felgen also wrote German lyrics for covers of international songs, and from 1965 to 1973, he was the host and commentator of German shows. He died in Esch-sur-Alzette on 16 July 2005.
