Biography

Lola Flores (MarĂ­a Dolores "Lola" Flores Ruiz) was a Spanish singer, dancer and actress, who highlighted the Spanish traditional singing and flamenco dancing. She was born in the town of Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia (southern Spain) on January 21, 1923, in a very poor family. From 15 years old she earned her living by singing in bars and taverns. In the early 40s she became known as she sang along with the famous at that time flamenco singer Manolo Caracol. In the decades of 50 and 60 she starred in many musicals and became known to the public as "Lola of Spain." On stage usually impersonated the Gypsy or Mexican peasant, dancing and singing traditional folk music. She married in 1958 and had three children, died in 1995 from breast cancer.
