Biography
Gun-Marie Fredriksson (1958-2019) was a Swedish singer, songwriter, pianist and painter who rose to international acclaim as the singer of the pop rock duo Roxette.
He was born on May 30, 1958 on a farm outside the small Swedish village of Össjö and was the youngest of five children. When she was four years old, her parents sold their farm and moved to Östra Ljungby. Three years later, her older sister died in a car accident, which broke up the family.
Marie, with the help of her older sisters, learned to sing, read and play music. The pastor of their area also encouraged her to get involved in music. At the age of 17 she enrolled in a music school in the municipality, where she distinguished herself for her voice and took on the lead role in a musical they uploaded. Their performance was a great success and they came to play in the capital in the presence of the Prime Minister, Olaf Palme.
Since then, Fredrickson has had a successful music career either as a member of bands or with solo albums that have been very successful in her country. In 1986, he co-created the Roxette duet with Per Gesle, with which they became a worldwide hit and sold over 75 million records with songs such as "The Look", "Listen to your Heart", "It must have been Love", "Joyride".
In 2002, after fainting at home, Fredrickson was diagnosed with a brain tumor. During her treatment, she continued to record music as a solo artist and also reunited with Gesle to record records as Roxette and tour the world. Fredrickson died on December 9, 2019 after health problems arising from the brain tumor.
