Tarja Turunen is a Finnish singer, songwriter, and pianist. Born on August 17, 1977, in Kitee, Finland, she's best known for her tenure as the lead vocalist of the symphonic metal band Nightwish from 1996 to 2005.

Tarja began her music education at a young age, showing a strong aptitude for music and performance. She later attended the Sibelius Academy and the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in Germany.

During her time with Nightwish, the band rose to become one of Europe's most successful symphonic metal acts. The blend of her operatic voice with the heavy instrumentation of the band created a distinctive sound that gained a massive following. However, in 2005, after differences with other members of the band, Tarja left Nightwish. The departure was highly publicized and stirred much conversation in the metal community.
